Brief Task Description

The Building Performance Specialist works under direct supervision using established MacDonald-Miller Facility Solutions standards. S/He executes and fully completes assigned projects, including: scope of work, estimating, hard/software engineering, installation coordination, system balancing, controls, commissioning project closeout and owner acceptance. This person reports to the VP of Building Performance. The Building Performance Specialist possessing the listed knowledge, skills, and abilities is accountable for the following:

  • Responsible for the financial results of assigned projects inclusive to departments 85, 86, 87, 90, and 95-0015.
  • Use current construction techniques to ensure work performed is in compliance with state, local, and federal legal requirements
  • Develop project schedules and coordinate the required resources to ensure timely and cost effective installation and completion of assigned projects
  • Evaluate the contractual scope of work and the impact of client issued bulletins, field directives, and/or scheduling changes
  • Manage the selection, ordering, budget, and delivery of materials to be procured for assigned projects
  • Complete loading device verification and commissioning of all System Controllers
  • Provide accurate commissioning documentation
  • Coordinate billing with Project Managers
  • Execute warranty letters upon substantial completion of project
  • Provide on-the-job mentoring to System Technicians, Balancing Technicians, and System Designers
  • Ensure that delegated tasks are done accurately, on time, and within the scope and budget of the contract
  • Complete installation hardware design and software programming using established standards as required
  • Effectively communicate the status of projects to management and provide weekly forecast of resource need
  • Communicate both technical and business issues with customers, Project Managers, subcontractors, and sales personnel
  • Provide technical support for the sale of building control and commissioning projects
  • Validate system functionality and troubleshoot problems with subcontractors to ensure proper operation
  • Perform site-specific training for owner/operator on the total system in full or with assistance
  • Provide proper documentation and manuals for system operations
  • Adhere to safety standards
  • Understand, accept, and support MacDonald-Miller Facility Solutions' Operating Guidelines, Operational Beliefs and Customer Commitment
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned


Qualifications

The candidate must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, or equivalent work experience in electrical or mechanical building systems
  • National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) certification for air & hydronics, building commissioning and/or sound & vibration
  • United Sates Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional
  • NICET Level I or II Fire & Safety certification
  • 06A and/or 07 Electrical Certification
  • Demonstrate project/team management experience inclusive of planning, scheduling, crisis resolution, resource management, and project administration
  • Working knowledge of electricity, building automation systems, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, refrigeration, fan & fan laws, pumps & pump laws, and sound & vibration measurement
  • Familiar with drafting tools such as AutoCAD or Visio
  • Above-average skills with Microsoft Office Products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with customers, staff, and management at all levels
  • Possess strong organizational, analytical, prioritizing, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to accurately and calmly handle multiple priorities with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to work independently or in a team atmosphere
  • Take pride in one's work and accept a level of responsibility for his/her professionalism and accuracy
  • A valid license and clean driving record are required


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

The candidate must possess and be adaptable to the following physical abilities and working conditions:

  • Ability to see, hear well (either naturally or with correction) and speak clearly
  • Coordinate the movement of your eyes, hands, and fingers
  • Physical requirements include: bending, sitting, climbing, squatting and standing; driving
  • Frequent computer screen use
  • Must be capable of working extended hour days when job/business needs demand
